Civil Engineer, P.Eng

Responsibilities 

Civil Engineering and Design

• Plan and design municipal and civil infrastructure projects, including roads, grading, drainage, water, sanitary sewer, stormwater, and site development
• Prepare and review engineering drawings, design calculations, specifications, reports, and cost estimates
• Complete hydrologic and hydraulic calculations and support stormwater-management design
• Develop grading, servicing, drainage, and erosion- and sediment-control plans
• Ensure designs comply with applicable legislation, codes, municipal standards, permitting requirements, and accepted engineering practices
• Incorporate northern design considerations, including permafrost, climate, seasonal access, material availability, and remote construction logistics
• Provide practical and constructible solutions that address client and project requirements
• Act as Engineer of Record and apply a professional stamp where appropriate and within the engineer’s area of competency

Project Coordination

• Coordinate assigned civil engineering projects and technical work packages
• Assist with developing project scopes, budgets, schedules, work plans, and deliverables
• Monitor assigned work and identify potential scope, schedule, budget, or technical concerns
• Coordinate with internal disciplines, subconsultants, utility providers, regulatory authorities, contractors, and other stakeholders
• Participate in project meetings and maintain accurate project documentation
• Support the preparation of tender documents, construction specifications, quantity estimates, and procurement packages

Construction and Field Support

• Participate in site visits, field reviews, inspections, and construction meetings
• Review shop drawings, requests for information, contractor submissions, and proposed field changes
• Respond to technical questions arising during construction
• Assess whether completed civil work generally conforms to the design documents
• Prepare field-review reports, deficiency lists, change documentation, and construction records
• Support contract administration and construction-quality activities
• Travel to project sites throughout the Yukon and northern regions as required

Client and Proposal Support

• Develop and maintain positive working relationships with clients and project stakeholders
• Participate in client meetings, technical discussions, and project presentations
• Assist with proposal preparation, scope development, schedules, work plans, and fee estimates
• Identify additional project needs and communicate them to the appropriate project lead
• Represent CAP professionally when working with clients, contractors, regulators, municipalities, and communities

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution
• Registered as a Professional Engineer, or eligible for registration, with Engineers Yukon
• Approximately five or more years of relevant civil engineering experience
• Experience in municipal infrastructure, transportation, land development, drainage, utilities, or related civil projects
• Demonstrated experience preparing and reviewing civil engineering designs and technical deliverables
• Experience with road design, site grading, stormwater management, water distribution, and sanitary sewer systems
• Knowledge of applicable Canadian engineering codes, standards, and regulatory requirements
• Strong technical writing, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams
• Experience coordinating project scope, schedules, budgets, and deliverables
• Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel to project sites
