Rycroft Substation Expansion

Project Details

Year Completed: 2022
Client: ATCO Electric
Location: Alberta

Fort McMurray and the surrounding oil sands area is experiencing substantial industrial growth and as a result the need for improved substations has become a major issue for most of the large projects taking place in the area.

The Rycroft Substation Expansion project was established out of necessity to accommodate the modification to the existing 144 kV and 72 kV network by adding a 144 kV dynamic reactive power support device. A 70 m x 53 m substation pad expansion was constructed; this work required earthwork, foundation install and fencing.
