CNRL Horizon Substation Expansion

Project Details

Year Completed: 2023
Client: ATCO Electric
Location: Alberta

Fort McMurray and the surrounding oil sands area is experiencing substantial industrial growth and as a result the need for improved substations has become a major issue for most of the large projects taking place in the area.

The CNRL Horizon Expansion project was established out of necessity to upgrade the current substation to match the current demand of electricity in the area. During the expansion, six 240 kV circuit breakers and two segments of 240 kV transmission line were added and connected to the existing system.
