The project involves the upgrade and replacement of aging equipment and infrastructure. The substation was built in 1907 and has served the area for more than 100 years. While well maintained, some equipment, such as the transformers, switches and breakers are now nearing end of intended service life. The construction scope of work consisted of repairs and modifications to various substation components, including:
- Installation of a high-capacity transformers and feeders
- Modernizing the substation while also preserving historical components in the final design
- Connecting the substation to the new networked system
Project Challenges:
- Congested site working conditions
- Aggressive schedule
- Multiple stakeholder interfaces
- Due to the age of the existing building, the substation is classified under the Historic Preservation Act
